A quintessential millennial view on Berlin’s skateboard scene, by Manuel Bogner. It includes some Gen-z but mostly you get that romantic, 2007 type of view and we love it, we hope you do too!

No rules, no age & no right or wrong. Skateboarding is the best. Ulm’s Manuel Bogner is living in Berlin for quite some time now & finally decided to release the video he has been working on ever since.

Featuring Malte Spitz, Thorsten Kempter, Fabian Endres, Valeri Rosomako and Manuel Bogner himself.

We can all agree that at the core of skate culture is a strong DIY spirit. But as skateboarding continues to grow the look and feel of DIY has changed, from professional skatepark builders to companies like Polar (and Pontus in particular) DIY still is omnipresent. Even though we welcome that evolution it is nice to see that some people still hold on to skateboarding’s punk roots!

BAUAMT is an initiative by skaters for skaters (mostly in Berlin). The park looks amazing and is reminiscent of some of the early ’90s builds, rough, weird but fun! So, with that said, it was only logical that Radio Skateboards would pay the place a visit. They all pulled themselves together and came all the way to Lichtenberg with a strong squad that was ready to rip. The result speaks for itself enjoy!

It is with great pride we present to you our newest video by Nizan Kasper with the support of adidas Skateboarding.

This video is almost entirely shot in the “Park am Gleisdreieck” spread through the district Kreuzberg and Schöneberg, located in the heart of the city. Shot within only a few days, we managed to catch the very last good days of the year to spend outside, just to eventually end up at the bar playing Foosball.

Did we ever tell you guys that we low-key really like Foosball? More about the topic bar sports coming soon.

Featuring: Jun Kummer, Valeri Rosomako, Tjark Thielker & Benny Vogel.

Film and edit by Nizan Kasper.

Two weeks ago “Dit is Berlin” started.  Both episode 1 and episode 2 were well received, to say the least, Niels Bennett even made it into the coveted Quartersnacks top 10.

But all things must come to a close, even the good things. Our closing argument for these series features the entire German part of the adidas team. Guys and girls like Tjark Thielker, Phil Anderson, Catherine Marquis, Valeri Rosomako, Eric Erhardt, Daniel Ledermann, Philip Oehmige, Patrick Zentgraf, Sandro Trovato & Jost Arens all skated our city in their own way.

Some even (temporarily) moved here in the process of making this series but all seemed to find their own way. The high spot count and different configurations of certain spots definitely shows what happens when skaters have loads of time and no police to kick you out!

Another highlight for us is Catherine Marquis a.k.a. @Yung_k_t who we featured on our website a while back. It is great to see the /// putting support behind one of Germany’s most promising female prospects and we are waiting to see more of her in the future.

As the series ends would like to thank adidas skateboarding for the support! All the skaters for their input, hard work and sweat. And not to forget Jon Wolf and Torsten Frank who documented it all for your viewing pleasure.  Now go watch the newest and latest episode of “Dit is Berlin”!

The very loveable Steve Forstner made a video about his summer 2017 and it is very honest, just like the man himself. Stefan Janoski, Wes Kremer, Remy Taveira, Konstantin Rutschmann, Valeri Rosomako & too many others to count are featured in this hi-end production from wherever Steve is at the moment.

The Ukrainien Expedition was initiated by Sergej Vutuc and filmed in Kiev, Odessa, Slavutych and Chernobyl. Follow Igor Fardin, David Grigoryan, Valeri Rosomako, Tomaž Šantl, Tjark Thielker & Sergej skating spots you have never seen before.

Underlined with the right song choice, this documentary is a lovely piece of work and you can almost imagine being there yourself. Good one, boys! It’s always worth visiting our eastern neighbors.

Necsessity is the mother of ingenuity. Thus, during the harsh wintertime in Berlin a part of the Iriedaily warehouse got transformed into a wonderful DIY indoor park. I suggest you better become friends with Valle Rosomako and if you are lucky he probably invites you for the next after work sesh, too.

Featuring Valeri Rosomako, Malte Spitz, Konstantin Rutschmann, Carsten Beneker, Tjark Thielker, Thanos Panou and Roland Hirsch.

When it comes to skate trips, the amount of pleasure you will receive in the end is mostly based on the crew of people you are with. You will end up in new places with some people you never met before while you are feeling some pressure to produce good photos and shoot video footage. This process sometimes can turn out to be a lot of fun!

But at the same time, there is no guarantee that you will get some time to be yourself. In fact, this pre-spring trip was not even planned to with these goals in mind. This trip was in fact about a bunch of good friends getting a slice of Porto’s sun while tasting some of Porto’s culinary delights. We were documenting each other’s skateboarding whenever someone was feeling one of the spots the old town has to offer. We weren’t expecting too much, we had semi-working VX cam and some spontaneous coastal showers, this forced us to enjoy the other attractions of the city.

As a result, our daily skate activities were divided by coffee breaks and some sightseeing. In the end, we were surprised by the amount of footage we are able to present you with in the following clip. The whole thing was entirely filmed by the members of our crew, and if you are watching it you get the same feeling we had on this trip, the feeling of enjoyment when time elapses.

adidas is a company with German roots, so it is only logical that the German guys made their own clip for the Berlin Away Days premiere. This clip definitely has its highlights, with people like Sandro performing a very nice tech-gnar move. All in all Tjark Thielker, Paddy Zentgraf, Valeri Rosomako, Kai Hillebrand, Phil Anderson and some new talent all come through!

This summer, PLACE and adidas Skateboarding proudly present the 3Stripes3Tricks video contest. It’s all about dynamic skateboarding – easy but stylish, fast and light-footed. This is Pt.2 feat. the skateboard-magician Valeri Rosomako:

In order to enter, all you need to do is film three tricks – either in a line or three single tricks in a clip – and upload the video to your Instagram account, using #3stripes3tricks while also tagging @placemag and @adidasskateboarding. That’s it – all entries get the chance to win amazing prices. We’ll choose three winners and repost your videos on the PLACE Instagram channel.

And there’s more: the winning footage will also take part in the Big Final Edit featuring the German adidas team with riders like Sandro Trovato, Lem Villemin, Patrick Zentgraf, Kai Hillebrand, and more. Last but not least, all three winners will receive a big adidas surprise stuff package delivered straight to their front door. Whether it’s stripes or tricks – three is the magic number and we hope to see your footage soon. Good luck!

Francisco Saco is so god damn passionated about what he is doing that you might get caught on fire if you work with him. He has the power to motivate you in a heartbeat – from sitting in a corner to grinding something. He will talk untill you really move your ass. We sat down with him to chat about Homo Pop Gun on the very day it will be celebrate its premiere. Happy Skateboarding y’all!

What is your new Movie “Homo Pop Gun” like? What do you wanna show your audience?
The Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms defines romantic comedy as “a general term for comedies that deal mainly with the follies and misunderstandings of young lovers, in a light-hearted and happily concluded manner whichusually avoids serious satire”. We can attempt to date the romantic comedy back to the ancient Greeks, who
incorporated elements of sexual and social nature in their comedies, or back to Shakespeare’s comedies of the late 1590s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream being purely romantic while Much Ado About Nothing approaches the comedy of manners.

It was not until the creation of romantic love in the western European medieval period, though, that “romance” came to refer to “romantic love” situations, rather than the heroic adventures of medieval Romance. The creation of huge economic social strata in the Gilded Age combined with the heightened openness about sex after the Victorian Era and the celebration of Sigmund Freud’s theories, and the birth of the film industry in the early twentieth century, gave way to the screwball comedy. As class consciousness declined and World War II unified various social orders, the savage screwball comedies of the twenties and thirties gave way to more harmless comedies. This style faded in the 1960s, and the genre lay mostly dormant until the more sexually charged ‘When Harry Met Sally’ had a successful box office run in 1989, paving the way for a rebirth for the Hollywood romantic comedy in the mid-1990s. And I would have to say that it is this late period of the romantic comedy that most informed me in the making of Homo Pop Gun. These are the films that I was surrounded by when growing up, forced to engage with either by girlfriends past or my mother and sister spending time back home. I make skate videos with themes to keep from getting bored and lost in the skating.

My last film was about post-colonialism and the vast divide between Latin American and European sensibilities. This time around my main focus was Love and my perception of it, or how I was being forced by elements around me to perceive it, how to perceive romance and companionship. I shot this video in exactly one year because of obsession, because of an addiction to realizing another project that just wouldn’t let go of me. After Video Diays, I thought I would take a break, but I just couldn’t force myself to. I’m proud of this video in the same way one is proud of something totally unexpected, a happy accident of sorts. I just kept shooting because I had no other alternative. And then somehow some idea formed in the distance and it made sense, total sense, to make this video about love and relationships and all that went with it.

Whats the main difference between “Video Diays” and “Homo Pop Gun”?
I honestly tried to make this more of a ‘skatevideo’ and I think at times I do go in that direction, but the ‘story’ aspect always manages to shine through. I guess that’s the main difference between this one and Video Diays. I wanted to try and get away from such experimentation and go for a straight skate video, but apparently I’m no good at those so the theme just slowly crept out of me and spilled into the video, along with all my eccentricities, which I’m very well aware are not everybody’s cup of tea. But I drink my own brand of tea and don’t really care if people catch on or not. I do feel the flow and level of skating is much higher in this one. And this time around its not as academic or critical. Homo Pop Gun works on a more purely emotional level. I really do hope people can identify with it in that way. I was also a little less strict about using only Hi8. I incorporated a lot of iPhone material, as well as ‘downgraded’ VX and HD footage, not to mention a little bit of Super8mm to class it up some.

Who came up with the name Homo Pop Gun?
I could spend a while bullshitting, saying that I’m trying to buck the trend in skating right now about bromances, gay culture, ambiguity and club culture by saying the title is a reference to all that, but in actuality it was just a happy accident when Martin Küpper, of MK1 fame, fucked up the name of a movie he was trying to remember, saying the film was called Homo Pop Gun. We all laughed and suggested he name his video that, but he went the safer, more sensible route and chose MK1. I on the other hand felt that title had just what I was looking for, for the themes being explored in my video, so I asked if I could take it and he said yes. I probably owe him a beer down the road at some point for that.

Francisco Saco HPG3

Who is involved in your latest project?
Some of the cast of my skate romcom are Hannes Schilling, Malte Spitz, Callum Paul, Dallas Rockvam, Roland Hirsh, Michael Mackrodt, Sergej Vutuc, Juan Esteban Saavedera, Kevin Besset, Valeri Rosomako, Remy Taveira, Flex O’Connor, Gereon Hecht, Elna Gurvitz, Julian Thyssen, Karsten Kleppan, Mauro Caruso, Steve Forstner and Konstantin Rutschmann.

The movie will be shown today at Villa Neukölln. For more information click HERE.

All Curbs Are Beautiful.
